FAQ
1. What does Ventis mean?
Ventis is the Latin word for "The Winds", a nod to the breathtaking Wind River Range, affectionately known as The Winds by those of us who call Wyoming home. It felt like the perfect name.
The Winds have long been a place where people come to breathe, to slow down, and to find themselves again, and that's exactly what I hope Ventis Wellness offers you, too.
The name is my promise: that your healing will be rooted in this land, carried by the Wyoming wind.
2. Is Sylvotherapy just for "tree huggers"?
Not at all! Sylvotherapy is backed by solid science and benefits everyone, from stressed professionals and city dwellers to people managing anxiety or recovering from illness. The only requirement is spending time among trees. No special beliefs, lifestyle, or love of nature required.
3. Is Sylvotherapy the same as Forest Bathing?
They are closely related but not identical. Forest bathing (or Shinrin-yoku) is a Japanese practice focused on mindful immersion in nature to promote relaxation and wellbeing. Sylvotherapy shares these roots but goes further, incorporating a more structured therapeutic framework with intentional guidance and specific wellness goals. Think of forest bathing as the foundation, and sylvotherapy as a deeper, more purposeful evolution of that practice.
4. Can I bring my dog?
While we love our fluffy friends, they distract from the presence required to be fully immersed in the experience. Keeping the forest space calm and focused ensures everyone can get the most out of their session.
That said, I warmly welcome certified therapy and service dogs. If you rely on a service animal, please let me know ahead of your visit so I can make sure everything is arranged for a comfortable experience.
5. Can Sylvotherapy replace traditional therapy?
No. Sylvotherapy is a complementary practice; it works alongside traditional therapy, not instead of it. Many people find that time in nature deepens their overall wellbeing, reduces stress, and supports the work they do with their therapist or counselor.
That said, if you are experiencing mental health challenges, it's important to seek guidance from a qualified professional who can properly assess, diagnose, and treat your needs. Sylvotherapy is a powerful tool for nurturing your mind and body, but it is not a substitute for clinical care.
6. Is Sylvotherapy suitable for children?
Sylvotherapy requires a level of stillness, focus, and inner awareness that younger children typically find challenging. For this reason, I welcome participants aged 14 and over. Teenagers often find the practice surprisingly powerful, and it can be especially beneficial for young people navigating stress, anxiety, or the pressures of adolescence.
7. How long does a session last?
I offer two session formats. The short Sylvotherapy session runs approximately 90 minutes: a great introduction to the practice or a lighter option for those with limited time. The fully immersive session runs 2.5 to 3 hours, allowing for a deeper, more transformative experience in the forest. If you're unsure which is right for you, feel free to get in touch and I'll help you decide.
8. Do I need to be physically fit to participate?
No. Sylvotherapy is a slow, gentle practice; there's no intense hiking, exertion, or physical challenge involved. Sessions are conducted at a relaxed pace with plenty of time to stop, breathe, and simply be. That said, if you have any mobility concerns or health conditions, feel free to reach out before booking so I can ensure the experience is comfortable for you.
9. What should I wear and bring for a session?
Dress for the weather and prioritize comfort: layers are always a good idea as temperatures can shift in the forest. Wear sturdy, comfortable footwear suitable for uneven ground. I recommend bringing a water bottle, any personal medication you may need, and an open mind. Leave the headphones at home; the sounds of the forest are part of the experience!
10. What can I expect during a session, and how many do I need?
Each session is a guided, sensory journey through the forest: slowing down, tuning into your surroundings, and reconnecting with nature at a deep level. I will lead you through various mindful practices, encouraging you to engage your senses and let go of the noise of daily life. There's no agenda or pressure- just presence.
As for results, many people notice a shift in mood and a sense of calm after just one session. However, like most wellness practices, the benefits deepen over time. Regular sessions, even once or twice a month, can lead to more lasting improvements in stress levels, mental clarity, and overall wellbeing.
